Earth Affirmation – Simple Discipline

Earth affirmation

Earth-in-your-Angel, I come to you in your heart of Fire. You have called me to your fiery core and I come bearing the gift of my own personal tragedy to feed the flames of your great loving heart. In the Fire of who you are and of who I am, I know the intimacy of your own lifeblood and of you in your death and rebirth dance. In the blue-gold of each dewy morning you draw down the sun into your sparkling green arms and together in your passion-play the life you spill sparks thunder and lightning. As Fire you sweep across the landscape of your own being, changing the face of your body-being intent upon your own metamorphosis. Yet you leave as a tender mercy the ashen remains of your fiery dance that, as a grace-full afterthought, guarantees life itself.”

This month create your May altar to honor and respect Maia; Earth in her form as the Goddess of Spring loving her Solar Prince with the fire of life and rain of love greening everything. Who will be your guide and teacher this month and who will walk with you each day and dream with you each night? In your morning or evening mediations recite your Earth Affirmation, use it as a mantra that may accompany you into the world of vision and inspired thought where you journey into your soul’s own world where encounters with Spirit are waiting. Ask those divinities and spirits who are the guardians of this month to receive an invocation, or a prayer that you can recite each day.

You are in a time of the deep move and secret burn of the life force in all new living things as they grow toward the sun, race toward the light, and unerringly reach for the radiance that is the promise of the full blush and bloom of things. And then there is the real living that entails constantly having to defend and protect, repair and heal the Soul-Self from a lifetime of threatening circumstances, dangerous distractions, mindlessness and forgetfulness and falling prey to decisions and habits (the wisdom-speak of the lily of the valley in its dual aspects) that may eventually compromise the beautiful God-given imperative of the Soul to strive for balance and harmony outwardly and within (the wisdom-speak of the emerald); to stand upon the ground of love and to be ultimately reunited with the Divine source of your own being.

Place fresh candles on your May altar, green and blue for the Earth and Sky and spring; red for the lifeblood that flows in your veins; yellow and orange for the Sun’s flames of life and of Divine love, and for the light within your own heart, mind, body and soul.

Throughout, your May altar should have newly planted life quickening into life: a potted plant; lily of the valley or another spring flower; fresh cut bouquets of lily of the valley, garlands of flowers, painted eggs, or prints, paintings, and other items with these images in them. Place pictures of fairies and nightingales and of the Virgin on your altar if you connect with these beings in sacred ways. In your meditations with these beautiful images ask for their wisdom teachings and don’t be afraid of what may come! Remember, lily of the valley can poison or and heal! Sometimes there are aspects of our selves and our lives that must undergo a spiritual or symbolic death so that we may experience a genuine rebirth and emerge revitalized into the light of a new day. Unimaginable sorrow can give rise to immense beauty, as did the Virgin’s sacred tears. But remember also, the magic and mystery of the nightingales’ songs and the sweetly fragranced air that calls out fairies and other exquisite mysteries. On your altar also honor the presence of the emerald. If you do not have an emerald use a green stone or crystal to represent it. Remain conscious of it being a symbol for the presence of the emerald in all its metaphorical meaning for you. Draw, map or write out your own mandalic journey toward your Emerald Self and place your emerald or its symbol in the center. Visit your May altar and mandala every day for new insights and renewals of intentions and the commitment to carry them out.
